Public Service Announcement

Dear FREEDOM junkies readers,
I have some really exciting news - The FREEDOM junkies is going to start a podcast! It’s called Breaking Free, and its going to be me, talking honestly about addiction, how it has affected me, and the things that I do to try and break free. I’d also love to interview people and have guests, so if you, or anyone you know would like to be involved, get in touch!

I was really nervous when we started the blog, but I have loved writing it, and really appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and support. The thing is, there’s so much more to say! I started feeling a little restricted, like I couldn’t write as much as I’d like, because let’s be honest, there’s only so long you can hold people’s full attention in this busy busy world. Podcasts are great because people can multi-task - you can listen in your car, while you’re walking the dog, I love to put them on while I’m cooking. And it means we can get deeper into some of the issues and topics that I feel like we’ve just scratched the surface of with the blog.

Because I enjoy writing so much, we’re definitely going to keep the blog going, and the posts are going to be the starting point for the podcast episodes, which we’re planning to be about half an hour long, released once a week.

To support the podcast, I’ve decided, after much careful consideration, to set up a FREEDOM junkies Facebook group. The reason I want to have a group is that I’m hoping it will become a kind of community - a place for people to ask questions (that could become podcast episodes!), share their thoughts and look for advice and support. It will also be a place where we will post information about the blog and the podcast, so once it’s set up I hope you’ll join so you can keep finding out what we’re up to!

The plan is to have everything set up, and the first episodes ready to release in early January (which is my 10 year anniversary of quitting drinking and my one year anniversary of quitting smoking, so it seemed appropriate!). So far, we’ve managed to create and put out the blog completely for free, but podcasts have some initial start-up costs, and then a yearly cost for hosting the episodes online. So we’ve added a donate button to the blog to raise money so we can get the podcast up and running. If you like the blog it will continue to be great, and the podcast is going to be awesome, so if it’s something you think you’d enjoy make a donation of anything you’re able to give. Even £1 will help us out. We are registered as a non-profit organisation, and it's really important to me that we honour that, so anything that we receive that is over and above covering our costs will be passed onto projects that align with what we're doing and care about - if anyone has any great suggestions then let us know!

In the meantime, keep looking out for weekly blog posts, join the Facebook group, and share it with your friends to help spread the love! Thank you so much for all your support, I hope you’re as excited about the podcast as we are!

All the love

-Ems-
